Our story
From a Lviv tradition to Factory Glass
The craft has a longer history than our workshop. Working with glass rods remains the foundation of what we make today.
1963
The roots of glass miniatures
We trace the Lviv tradition of glass-rod miniatures to this year. During the 1960s, the craft developed at the Raiduha glassworks. Vitaliy Ginzburg was the chief artist of the Raiduha glassworks.
2006
Factory Glass
Roman Hrynchyshyn, a former director of LEXSF, founded Factory Glass. He brought together makers who continued working with glass rods and developed their own forms and ideas.
The technique
How a glass rod becomes a piece
This is called lampworking, or flameworking. Instead of blowing large forms, the maker works directly with a slender glass rod.
Flame
Colored glass rods are heated in a torch flame until they become soft enough to shape.
The maker’s hands
The maker shapes the glass by hand, drawing out petals, silhouettes and fine details.
A finished piece
The result is a flower, animal or small sculpture, each with its own character.
Beyond Lviv
Recognition worldwide
Our pieces represent Ukrainian craftsmanship at exhibitions in Germany, France, Italy and Czechia. It is a chance to show how much character a small handmade object can hold.
Our own production
From glass rod to finished figurine.
Constant development
New forms, ideas and collections.
